60 Seconds -- Steve Lawler
60 Seconds -- Steve Lawler
February 5th, 2010
While some indie kids were out there pretending to learn chords on their guitar, DJ Steve Lawler was honing his skills at getting the party started! By age 16 he had already accumulated some serious DJ cred—hosting his famous illegal dance parties under the M42 motorway in London that attracted crowds of over 500 dancing peeps. The “King of Space” (a nickname that’s stuck after some pretty awesome Space at Ibiza performances), Steve Lawler will be back in Singapore to spin some tunes and roar in Chinese New Year at Zouk. Here we share with you some expert DJ knowledge:
What was your first turntable set-up?
Two pioneer decks without pitch control! Very small two channel mixer of which I can’t remember the make or model. Crappy amp and crappy speakers. Very low budget and basic, but this was when I was 16.
What was the first record you ever purchased?
A Depeche Mode single: “Just Can’t Get Enough.”
Best spot to find new music?
www.wordandsound.de.
Any tips for a surefire awesome night out?
Yes, be with friends! This for me is the most important thing.
Worst DJ name you’ve ever heard?
DJ Knobby—Cecilia Quintanilla
Steve Lawler will be hosting a raucous set this Feb 14 at Zouk, 17 Jiak Kim St., 6738-2988.
