Piping Comforts
Din Tai Fung (#B1-03/06 Paragon, 290 Orchard Rd., 6836-8336) is known for their signature xiao long bao (steamed pork dumplings). But at this outlet, they have also introduced the new xiao long tang bao ($10.80). Similar to the steamed pork dumplings, these mini dumplings are much more exquisite at half the size. Particularly convenient for the ladies, this delicate new dim sum is served together with a piping hot chicken broth. Although newly introduced, it is already a hot favorite—and the mini dumplings are easily sold out by 11am. Try other piping comforts, too, like the fried prawn pancake ($8.50) and the steamed yam paste dumplings ($7.80 for 10) while you’re here.

Full of Crab
Attention all crab lovers: through Jul 12, you can stuff yourself with an unparalleled crab feast at Ellenborough Market Café (G/F, Swissôtel Merchant Court, 20 Merchant Rd., 6239-1848). The Ultimate Crab Buffet ($46 per person) is available for dinner daily; and features an extremely tempting selection of crabs; along with local, international and Peranakan specialties. Chow down on lip-smackingly good crabs cooked in different ways like the Nonya curry crab, crabs in fragrant Thai sauce and of course—hot favorites like awesome wok-fried Sri Lankan chili crabs with man tou (deep-fried bun); and the ubiquitous black pepper Sri Lankan crab. Check out other goodies like the braised beef brisket with jade turnip vegetables curry and crab risotto before digging into the delectable sweet endings at the dessert counter that includes a chocolate fountain.

Desire (The Scarlet, 33 Erskine Rd., 6511-3333) has a “Stimulus Package”—with sets called “Two to Tango” (an appetizer and entrée; or entrée and dessert) for only $26; and “Ménage à Trois” (appetizer, entrée and dessert) for a value $30.
